Unsung Heroes

Here I am across the sea, as far away as I'll ever be.
But the reason for this, I need not ask why,
For I am serving my country for which I would die.

I remember the night when I left my world,
when I departed my family, and that wonderful girl.
I gazed upon their faces, they bore a tear,
I was going away and wouldnt be back for a year.

Then I boarded my flight and left the ground,
with a round trip ticket..Viet Nam bound.
While in mid flight I ask God to bless me,
for in my path lay my destiny.

Then I got off the plane and looked around,
and the first thing I noticed...
No grass on the ground.

Then I began my march, for I had begun my tour,
while looking upon the sad faces of people so poor.
Then I began to realize and well understand,
Why these creatures of God need a helping hand.
To do their fighting thru the guidance of Thee
and all the while keeping my land free.
