Thank Him

It was the darkest day in history
He had waited for it all His life
Mortal time for Him would be no more.
As mankind sacrificed the lamb called, "Christ".

What was it He was thinking
As He prayed in Gethsemane
Did He see himself spit on and scorned
As they nailed His hands and feet to the tree?

Did He ever have second thoughts
Fill His tormented, troubled, mind
When He sweat drops of blood
And said "Oh Father, Your will not mine?"

How was He able to overcome
His fleshy nature and its call?
Why didn't He put Himself first
And thus condemn us all?

These questions I ponder
As another Easter is drawing near
They make Jesus more precious
With each passing new year!

Yes, Jesus was obedient
To his heavenly Father's will
He lovingly died as my substitute
My punishment for sin He did fulfill.

He died for you, too, my friend
That Good Friday morn of old
And rose on Easter Sunday
After the stone away was rolled.

We love to remember the resurrection
And how, eternal life, it symbolized
But we must not forget Good Friday
And how, in pain, He agonized.

This Easter when you remember
The priceless gift He gave to you
Thank Him for his obedience
For having seen His mission through!
