Stepping Stones
In my lifetime
there have been
many stepping stones
that I have traveled upon.
Some have spanned
across raging waters,
buried deep beneath
the dark, blue surface.
Others have been
at a tranquil river's edge,
their wet tops shinning
in the warm sunlight.
The stones that were buried
were wearily traveled.
With each step I took,
I was overcome with fear.
I desperately tried
to climb to safety
but continued to slip
along the muddy banks,
back into the frenzy
of the waters below.
The stones at the river's edge
which were slightly exposed
to the bright sunlight
warmed my feet
as I tread across them
through the cool, clear water.
The sound of the water lapping
along the banks
brought peace and serenity
to flow smoothly
throughout my body.
No matter which stepping stones
I chose to travel
God was by my side,
leading me gently across
each stone on my journey
to follow His Word.
