In The Twilight of My Years
The night is falling fast in the twilight of my years
Although my life is shortened now, I face it without fear
Each day is a reminder of God’s mercy to me
Each day a gift; each tomorrow, I long to see
Throughout the years of youth and glory
Each memory made was all part of the story
The story of joy, happiness, and sometimes pain
But at the final end, it is the memories that will remain
The memories of childhood, of dancing in the rain,
of dragonflies and butterflies and whistles on trains
The starlit nights, the cool summer breeze
These are only a few of my many memories
I settle back in my favorite chair
and think of the yesterdays as if I were still there
My eyes are hazy, my hearing almost gone
But the memories of all my yesterdays, will still live on
For each memory recited by family and friends
were the memories made, as my life began
Memories are a reminder of our time spent on earth
Love is the reason, they begin at birth
