Angel

When I would go into her house it would
Smell like homemade jelly and bread.
I would look in from the entry way
And see the snow white hair on her head.

I feel suddenly at ease watching her there
Gently rocking in her favorite chair.
Her feet bouncing in a rhythm all her own.
The goodness and love so strong
That I knew I was home.

As I approach her, what I feel
I cannot describe in words.
The warmth and calm that she gives
Is second only to my Lords.

I lean over and tell her I love her,
As I gently kiss her on the cheek.
Then I sit down knowing I can show
My heart here, no need to be meek.

She asks if I'm hungry or need a drink.
The fact that she has so very little,
she doesn't for one minute think.

Then I think to myself, how could I want more?
She already has given me so much
since I walked into the door.

Then she turns her head to give me a smile.
And we sit there in silence for a while.
Every so often talking about this or that.
The whole time I'm thinking I know
where I belong, and this is where it's at.

We would spend the evening
watching old movies or playing a game.
It didn't matter to me,
I was happy to be with her just the same.

I look back at all the time I had with her
And thank God for this gift.
To sit and look upon the face of an angel,
Especially when I needed a lift.

Well, she has gone home to heaven now,
And I plan to do the same.
So I can see her again,
This angel with grandma for a name.
