Sitting by a cool, quiet stream
God's perfect peace floods over me
As the waters gently ripple by
The tree limbs bow so gracefully.

Wild flowers scattered everywhere
Their fragrant scents permeate the air
Myriad's of color form nature's kaleidoscope
And I am fascinated by all the beauty there.

I hear a bird's cry pierce the air
Its seeking solace from its mate
I see a squirrel scamper up a tree
Branches bending under its weight.

A deer drinks to quench his thirst
The refreshing water is crystal clear
Psalm twenty three comes to mind
And I feel Your presence here.

The tree roots grow very deep
Sinking into the trickling stream
Lord, let my roots go deep in You
My sinful soul Your Word redeems.

Like the deer, You refresh me
In surroundings so serene
You offer a drink of Living Water
From Your Spirit, a Heavenly stream.

Like the bird calling to its mate
You hear me when I cry out to You
You bring solace to my soul
When I am alone and feeling blue.

Like the squirrel, needing protection
Scampers up the big Oak tree
I run into Your everlasting arms
And find the shelter You offer me.

In this world, I want for nothing
The Good Shepherd makes me whole
He meets me at these quiet waters
And brings restoration to my soul.

Let me bow down like the tree limbs
Prostrating myself before the King
Let me rise up like a wild flower
On the edge of God's Eternal Stream.

I'll bloom along the wayside
My roots anchored in Your soil
And I will pour out my beauty
Like a precious fragrant oil.

In days to come may I remember
The quietude of this stream
May the memory not quickly fade away
Like one who is waking from a dream.
